( No Title )
It hasn’t come up recently but I suspect it will yet again soon…
Gatekeeping multiples on Tumblr who don’t know the history of multiplicity like to say “these terms are ours. They were made for us!”
Then when nongatekeepers inform them of the history of those terms, they go “Those are old!” (and therefore invalid.) I’m not talking about hundreds of years ago. I’m talking the 90s. I’m a 90s kid, it doesn’t feel that long ago to me. But maybe if you were born this millennium it does… But that doesn’t mean it’s invalid. This is where multiplicity has been. The community nowadays is built on the foundation of things that have gone before, even if younger folk these days often think otherwise. We have to look at the past to see how we got to where we are.
But yeah anyway… Where else are you going to go to prove that terms were NOT made just for you to use?
If terms describing a state of being have historically been used by all kinds of multiples, it is absolutely not fair to try and take it away from us now.
Gatekeepers feel like we’re taking things from them that belong to them. Really it’s the other way around. They’re trying to take things from us that have belonged to us longer than Tumblr has existed, longer than Yahoo even, maybe in many cases longer than they’ve even been alive.
And that is absolutely not going to happen.
