people getting mad about ao3 hosting offensive fics is like people getting mad at journalists covering rape articles and using the word “allegedly.” there are circumstances in which objective ethics take precedence over people’s feelings.
I feel like it goes a bit beyond that even. It’s more like being angry that Fox News is full of alarmist garbage with bad values or complaining that Bloomberg has too much business news or being angry that a newsletter from a human rights organization is full of horrible, depressing current events. You knew what slant those things had going in, so you have only yourself to blame if you don’t like the content you’re viewing.
AO3 was set up to protect all fic, most especially the fic that got deleted elsewhere–a.k.a. the problematic porn. Anybody who doesn’t like that mission can post their fic on the entire rest of the internet.
