frankly the idea that traumagenic and spiritual explanations can’t co-exist seems. frustrating. at least presumptuous. and this is from someone who goes with neither explanation :V (tho at least for a period of time it felt like “’natural’ = spiritual” so there’s our stake in it)

just, we’ve seen folks attend to both? even ignoring different people in a system potentially having differing ideas, there’s things like “i cried out for help during trauma; these people responded”, “i went to another world during trauma and that’s where they come from”, “trauma fractured my soul”, etc. plus what about the folks who got their information about their DID from Ralph Allison :V

call it being wrong about their disorder, a lack of insight, an ~unhealthy coping mechanism~ or whatever, but those folks exist, and need DID resources too, so it always makes me a bit :/ to see a mentality of “you must have this and only this belief in your causation to have DID”

Yeah. We read books on shamanic and animistic beliefs (both traditional and New Age sorts) and one concept we’ve come across is the idea that a person’s soul can be fractured/split due to trauma or similar stress. Heck I’ve even seen a a few books have even linked or referenced DID (though maybe not in that label depending upon how old the book is) with these beliefs. So I’ve never seen the idea as that strange.

So I don’t see why someone can’t be a spiritual traumagenic system, least in how they see themselves.

I didn’t even realize this was a thing (though it doesn’t really surprise me, in hindsight).  I mean, hell, we’re DID and we STILL have members who while they may have been pulled in by trauma, weren’t created by it like the rest of us.  We’re still at least somewhat mixed-origins, even if the root cause of it all was just trauma.

Huh.
