Soulbonds are people from other places resembling fictional works who have either a long distance connection into someone’s mind or show up as headmates. Some people are getting confused and saying it can only be one way or the other, but both things can happen.

The belief in soulbonds is a spiritual explanation for this phenomenon. When a soulbond is a headmate, that is all it is, a spiritual belief as an explanation.

Systems with soulbonds are still real systems. The term system is actually a term that came from the endogenic system community as a term to describe the phenomenon of sharing a head with multiple people.

While systems with DID or similar disorders and systems with soulbonds are different, we are both systems because the term system is a broad term. Soulbonds in systems are not confusing their identities for kintypes because soulbonds in systems work like system members and not kintypes.

So to explain it more easily, the term system is like the term mammal. Cats and dogs are both mammals but a cat isn’t a dog. Just because a cat isn’t a dog doesn’t mean that it isn’t a mammal.

A cat also isn’t a lizard because lizards are not mammals and work completely differently.

I hope this helped some people who are confused.

thats a really long way to say “ive never read the dsm, dont know what structural dissociation is and dont understand how dissociative disorders work”

I never said being a soulbond was a disorder. I said that the word system is a broad word. Go back and read it again.

system is a word used to describe people who have a disorder involving tertiary structural dissociation actually

Source?

From what I’ve seen it’s been a shared term for a while.

That “"source”“ quotes astraesnet, a site known for abusive misinformation. I can get you a link on how bad they are if you want one.

I know, but that link has a shit ton of websites other than that that you just seem to be ignoring. Also, that website is sometimes right even if it is shitty. A stopped clock is right twice a day.

I don’t see you guys giving me any sources saying that it’s strictly only for disordered systems.

As far as we know “system” dates back to either 1998 or 1996 and was used by natmuls first. Those natmuls interacted pretty freely with disordered multiples though so the term crossed over entirely by 2000 to represent pretty much any kind of multiple. I don’t think in the beginning soulbonders were in that same group but I’m not sure, I can definitely confirm it’s been a mixed term for a really long time and probably started with natmuls though.

Do you have a source? A source would be good.

I’ll dig through our history of DID/multiplicity post from our old blog when I get home from work and on a computer. Mostly that’s word of mouth from systems who are friends of ours who have been in the community since the early 2000s so I can’t guarantee I’ll find anything but it’s worth checking since we vaguely remember sourcing something about this back then

(Sorry to drop in and share near-sourceless info on a post I didn’t read fully but as a DID system who’s been in the community half a decade we haven’t seen this ‘system is DID exclusive) until recently. It’s always been a shared term?)

It’s fine. Thanks for dropping in. It’s nice to have people sticking up for us.

Some google research I’ve been doing is leading me to the conclusion that system might have been coined on the multiplicity newsgroup alt.support.dissociation

Here’s their FAQ http://faqs.cs.uu.nl/na-dir/dissoc-faq/part3.html

Im looking through the archives to see if I can find the first use of the term.
