Right, looks like we’re adding Nergal and Ereshkigal to the never ending list of don’t- eat-the-fairy-food stories.
Nergal heads down to Ereshkigal’s underworld and is expressly instructed to not sit in their chairs (he brings down his own fancy chair), eat their bread or meat, drink their beer, wash his feet in their foot bath, or have sex with Ereshkigal.
After this it’s fragmentary and a little difficult to figure out exactly what goes down, but we do know that he at first turns down everything he was warned off from, and then eventually the sex happens (and possibly he gives in with the bread and the chairs and everything, too, depending on what goes down in those missing lines), and then a bunch more disappointingly fragmentary plot stuff (we have just enough to know that there’s some really cool stuff going on, but not enough to really get everything), and then they get married and he becomes a joint ruler of the underworld.
