What do dersites think of the dreamers located on their moon?
The typical word referring to the dreamers used when I first arrived on Derse was ‘demons’. We are the sleeping threat, and one even closer to home than the horrorterrors. Our bodies slumbered on the chained moon of Derse even before the Queen arrived from Skaia; and according to prophecy when we rise up and awaken the time of the medium’s destruction is nearly at hand.
When I awoke, the people of Derse treated me with fear and suspicion, as well as scorn and anger that they were for the most part afraid to show. When I walked down the street, they moved far out of my way. When I entered shops and restaurants, shoppers left, and owners offered me free merchandise to leave as soon as possible. To be honest, it was rather distressing, though I can’t blame them. I’m sure the only reason I didn’t have rocks thrown at me was for fear of some divine retribution.
Individual Dersites opinions varied of course. Some were more frightened, some more angry, a few bold ones more curious. With these last ones, I attempted to strike up a few conversations, and later, friendships. Appearing in public repeatedly, and in the company of Dersites did a lot to ease the tension, so at least people no longer ran to get out of my way. Exposure therapy, I suppose.
All in all, Dersites are justifiably afraid of their Dreamers, but are of course, forbidden by law of prophecy to ‘interfere’. Expect to be greeted by terror, frustrated anger, and the occasional cringing acquiescence from the general populace. High ranking agents and officials of course are more likely to put up at least a front of fearlessness, and if you’re lucky, respect. (and of course there’s the odd idiot who won’t even notice they’re supposed to be afraid of you– but when isn’t there?)
If you’re a Derse Dreamer and you’re trying to overcome the intimidation factor with the local populace I recommend a few things. Don’t yell, don’t threaten to curse anyone etc. Just act as naturally as possible. Be a good person. Offer to pay for things if you can, answer questions that are ask to you seriously. Just generally ‘don’t be an asshole’.
Unfortunately we can’t control all our sessionmates, all the time, and things happen that can damage your reputation. If one of your sessionmates starts acting up on Derse, I recommend to distance yourself from them immediately, and get them off the planet as soon as possible.
