Carapaces (both Prospitians and Dersites) have two names; a personal name, and a title, sometimes called a ranknym which is officially bestowed, and reflects their job, temperament, achievements, etc.

The ranknym is a carapace’s public name, used in identification, to sign documents, and to introduce yourself to casual friends, acquaintances, business partners, etc, and is generally the only name used in daily public life. A carapace’s ranknym may change over their lifetime, if they’re promoted, demoted, move to another job, achieve something, change personally, etc.

A carapace’s personal name is an extremely private, sensitive secret shared only with very, very close friends, lovers, etc. To share one’s name is an act of intimacy. This is why we typically only know all of the Prospitians and Dersites by their two word title.

You may notice the glaring exception here of one Jack Noir. The fact that he introduces himself by personal name is a rather crude and presumptuous gesture, overly familiar. His Prospitian twin, Jack Blanc also introduces himself with his personal name, in this case because he genuinely desires to be friendly with everyone.

The monarchs of course have personal names but even if I knew them, I would not divulge them here, as to do so would be gravely offensive.
