Just saying, if you relate to any of these, you are probably otherkin.
-feeling closely related to an object or an animal on a spiritual level
-seeing a thing and thinking “thats me”
-getting flashbacks as an animal or object you might be kin with
-feeling as though you are something nonhuman
-feeling the need to be different
-thinking constantly about animals or thingsOkay, look. I get what you’re trying to do here, I really, really do, but you’re going to mislead people.
– The first problem here is your use of the word ‘object’. You can’t be kin with an inanimate object, and you can certainly feel a spiritual connection without being kin. A better way to phrase that might be that if you feel that you are, in some way, that animal/being, then you may be kin.
– While people who already know that they’re kin may well do this, you can’t just look at something for the first time and say oh, look I’m kin with that thing. People do this all the time, and it’s why the kin community gains members who are active for a few weeks/days and then realize they aren’t kin.
– My main problem with this one is that your brain is an immensely powerful organ. If you try to convince yourself that you’re remembering something, you have a reasonably good chance of actually doing so. That’s why I say I don’t have any memories. Sure, I might, but there’s a much better chance that I’m fabricating them, and I already know I’m kin. Correction: Some otherkin do have memories, and others don’t. Memories unfortunately aren’t a good indicator by themselves.
– The feeling of being non-human can be an indicator of any number of things, including delusions. Otherkin certainly may feel this way but it is by no means a good indicator of being kin.
– This point is my main problem with your post, to be honest. You are not kin because you feel the need to be different, you’re just like everybody else in your age group. People who claim to be kin for the express purpose of being ‘cool’ and ‘different’ and having something else to put up in their profile are the ones who do the most damage to our community. It’s just not a valid reason to claim to be otherkin, I’m sorry.
– I spend a lot of time thinking about my dog. I spend a lot of time thinking about my novel’s characters. I spend a lot of time thinking about my boyfriend, and my little sister. I am kin with exactly none of these things, and yet by this definition I am kin with all of them. I don’t mean to sound rude here but the way this is phrased is rather deceptive and won’t really lead to any kind of valid answer for someone who takes this advice. In addition, this is one of the largest problems within the fictionkin community – people get hooked on a specific game/anime/what-have-you, pick their favorite character(s) to claim to be kin with and once a new super cool fascinating thing comes around they switch to that and drop the old kintype in favor of one or more from their new obsession. The best example would be Five Nights At Freddy’s and Undertale, the most recent example of this kind of behavior. You might have noticed a lot of FNAF kin have dropped off the face of the earth as the games have slowly taken a backstage to others, most notably Undertale, which, if you’ve noticed, has a lot of people claiming to be kin with [fill in the name of their favorite character] at the moment. As something new and cool comes into the forefront, there will be a significant drop in Undertale kin, and the cycle will begin again. So no, a fascination with something is by no means a good indicator of being kin with something.
I don’t think that you made this post with the deliberate intent of misinforming people, but you certainly will. None of these things are a good indicator of otherkinity in and of themselves, and a few of them mean that you’re just like every other human being on this planet. I’m sorry if this comes off as me just being rude, but this is how it is.
They actually did make the post with the intent of misinforming people. They’re a troll blog. (They admitted it)
