I was told I had a cold heart, but look what I’ve found

Summer in her smile, and the warm curve of her legs

(as I lay my head in her lap, exhausted and half dreaming)

a sky full of white clouds and butterflies in the brush of her lips

(kisses tasting of wine and valentine’s extravagance)

a warm spot in the sun, when she puts her arms around me,

(every morning, wrapping around my body like a coil)

a call home I want to answer when says my name.

(with that upward tone when she wants attention)

I feel so lucky to have made it here, clawed my way through

a life that was made up of splashes of hell in a sea of purgatory

to a warm summer rain of small, precious droplets of perfection.
