@fickins
I don’t mind people using fictionkin to cope with mental illness, trauma etc since that’s their business and if it works it works but what i’ve been seeing increasingly especially when people are explaining to haters is people making it seem like coping is the only reason why people are otherkin. Which i find a bit invalidating being a person who doesn’t use it as a coping mechanism, but rather sees it as a spiritual belief for myself.
People who use their kintypes to cope are legitimate, but the majority of the time when people say that someone is “kin to cope” they mean someone choosing to have that identity, which is not something otherkin do. If someone consciously forms a non-human (or fictional to parallel fictionkin) identity to cope with something it is called a copinglink.
So not only is it invalidating, but also incorrect.
