Homestuck updates tomorrow…
You’ve been dancing around your house for the past 30 minutes, waiting with a mixture of excitement and dread for the website to update. You hop over and refresh for the one millionth time, but this time the screen is different; at the bottom is the thing you been waiting for. The final command. It has no title, and is instead only a “====>”. You hesitate – it feels wrong, for some reason. Maybe it was you not really wanting the comic to end. Maybe it was you not knowing what to expect, and wary of what Hussie would pull. Maybe you should wait a little longer.
Nah, fuck that. You’ve been with this stupid comic for years. You’re gonna be on top of that shit. You click the link, holding your breath.
When the page loads, it’s not what you expect. Instead of a large series of panels, or maybe another video, it’s another “====>”, with the ominous words “Reader: Begin”. What the fuck? Why can’t Hussie ever do something in a logical manner?
Oh yeah. It’s Homestuck.
You let out your breath with a sigh and click the link. You yelp in surprise as the page dissolves before your eyes, your entire screen turning pitch black. After a few tense moments, which are spent wondering what Hussie has up his sleeve, the man’s sprite appears on the screen, as ridiculous looking as always. He faces the screen, and even though you know this is pre-programmed, it still unnerves you.
“The story is almost over.”
The white text appears beside Hussie, and you quickly realize he’s narrating directly to you. The text continues to pop up after a few seconds, and your eyes are glued to the monitor so as not to miss a single word.
“It’s been great, but the story has to end somewhere. This isn’t some dumb, made up cartoon on TV. Okay, well, it’s pretty stupid.”
You nod. If Hussie is anything, he’s self aware.
“But it still dragged you in. You’re rooting for them, even if they’re idiots sometimes. You still come back. I wonder why?”
You feel that sense of unease again. Something isn’t right.
“You’ve always known why. From the birth of this comic, you knew.”
Hussie fades out, and his white eyes become a part of the background as a new prompt is given.
“===>
Reader: Rise”
You click the link, curious and unnerved. You’re confused when a download begins, finishing too quickly for you to see what it is. Maybe Hussie got hacked. Maybe this is going to have a virus that wipes out your computer.
You’re too curious to care.
You knew something was wrong from the start, and your stomach drops at a familiar window.Sburb Client
