Why is it that everyone who thinks it’s wrong to id outside your race is 13/14/15 years old
Because tumblr is a very good environment for extremism. A lot of places online are, but tumblr’s just the high-traffic place to be these days. Folks at that age are very impressionable and can get really fired the fuck up if just a few influential personalities know how to manipulate them and sound like they know what they’re talking about. The Yandere Bitch Club who invented this shitty discourse were all adults who were eventually run off for being lying abusers, but abusers are good at spreading chaos that lasts long after they’re gone.
Social justice on tumblr has Some Issues, one of them being that young people who are still forming opinions on really complicated social problems are being bombarded every other post with conflicting and contrasting bullshit. And the pressure to PICK A SIDE PICK A SIDE BETTER PICK THE RIGHT SIDE is intense. A lil well-intentioned white kid who just wants to look good will likely go with whatever of us mystical POC will convince them is the right stance first, without actually evaluating it or just staying the fuck out of it. So if a single one of us (or someone pretending to be one of us…) says “don’t kin outside ur race or ur Bad”, the pressure is on for them to strong-arm their peers into agreeing with it.
Kids are confused dweebs. Not stupid, just confused, and dealing with hellish concepts in faulty black and white absolutes that they’re obviously not ready for yet. (And some of em are just straight up bullies and abusers themselves, regardless of being minors, and will torment anyone with otherkinity as the excuse.)
Also nonhumanity is like a drug for certain types of people, especially young ones who have all these wild and perplexing emotions and need to express their personalities and aesthetics as they navigate young adulthood. For them it’s a toy, a board game, and how dare someone tell them it’s not? This isn’t anything new for these communities either. It’s very attractive for people in that age-range to cling to it, even when they don’t actually fit the definitions, or might be taking things too far. Elders and Greymuzzles exist to help, but on tumblr it’s trendy to tell anyone who contradicts you with real info that they’re SCUM so o well
