Neat. I think I’m from the version of Oz in the Oz books.

Dude, that’s so cool. The Oz books were my favorites as a child, and they helped me a lot growing up. 🙂 I thought for a while I was the only one who read the actual books, lol. I’m sorry there aren’t many kin from there. I think you’re right about what you said in an earlier post- if it were a century ago there’d be a lot more, when Oz was really popular.

I actually never read any Oz books until January this year. I’m kind of upset about that because I would’ve loved them when I was a little kid. A thick chapter book with pictures? That are colorful? And there are major nonhuman characters? And it makes sense that there’d be more kin if Oz were more popular, since if something’s popular, people are more aware of it and paying attention to it.

Some other reasons I think Oz fictionkin are rare:

1. It’s too… normal now. It’s not too uncommon to see something Oz related or to hear someone reference The Wizard of Oz movie, at least in my experience. It seems like it’s kind of in the backround now.
2. The Wizard of Oz movie, which is now the most well known version of Oz, has Oz be a dream.

Aw, I’m sorry you missed out when you were a kid, they were definitely a real delight! There was really no fantasy world that transported me like Oz did, and I love all the characters. (I had my main tumblr url general-jinjur for a while)

I think you’re right about Oz being almost ‘background noise’ which is a shame, and equally I think you;re right that MGM did a real disservice to Oz making it a dream story.
