how much do you guys wanna bet half the kids on here are using “kin” to personify their fandom issues and provide “proof” that ships and headcanons and works of fantasy hurt real people

Called it.

idk if this is happening or not but as a fictive if you do this my response to you is 😐

like a) don’t use “kin” for your hatewank, but also b) as someone who is Literally Priss Asagiri (idk what the kids these days mean by that but what i mean by it is there’s no separation between me and that person, that is and was and continues to be my life, there is no not-priss me) and literally has read fanworks that upset and hurt me and made me feel sick i still don’t believe in taking the power of fiction away from people

because yes i am a real person but also i’m a musician, i was a musician before i came here, i know what fandom is when applied to a real person and i am not against rpf when it’s tagged, warned for and not deliberately shown to the people in the story to get a rise out of them

if you’re not doing that? then yeah there’s a chance i could stumble across yr shit and it’ll hurt me

but its not your job to protect me from anything that might hurt me

it is my job to woman up and accept that there are things in the world that will hurt me, accidentally, as the result of other people exercising their right to creativity, as the result of a million other things that aren’t products of systemic hate but are simply a problem of “you need A, i need not-A, let’s just try and steer clear of each other”

so if you think being fictive/kin legitimizes your hate? nah

it legitimizes your hurt. i understand being hurt by stumbling across something you really, really didn’t wanna think about in relation to yourself. i understand wanting, deep in your blood, to purge all traces of the things that hurt you from the internet, and if you wanna come in my inbox and vent about that you can

but you still don’t get to control who writes what for their own entertainment, catharsis, jollies, or w/e

you can be disgusted by it. you can be squicked by it. you can hate it. you can vent about it. but you can’t and shouldn’t control it. it wasn’t meant for you.

Cloud and I were just discussing this a little bit before he made this post. We’re both fictionkind in the literal and original sense of the word, and we both see ourselves as largely unchanged from our previous lives (meaning we are still the same people, just moving between physical forms).

We both heavily advocate the use of all kinds of fiction as a mechanism for coping, self-exploration, artistic expression, and yes, simple recreational enjoyment, regardless of how much it may personally squick us when we see ourselves involved in it.

Do I like the way I’m portrayed by the fandom the vast majority of the time? God no, it’s annoying at best and makes me feel physically sick at worst, but my experience in no way entitles me to intrude upon and dictate the experiences of others.
