Being
non-DID/OSDD =/= being endogenic

A multiple
system not meeting criteria for DID or even OSDD does not mean they were not
caused by trauma.

A multiple
system not meeting criteria for DID or even OSDD does not mean they are
endogenic.

Gotta love
people who read a multiple system saying they don’t meet criteria for DID or
OSDD and assume the origin of the system.

Which really goes to show negatively tumblr has spiral down when it comes to
different kinds of plural folks.

Tumblr is possibly the worst thing to happen in terms of the online plural community.

But it isn’t the worst thing ever.

The prevailing “black-or-white”, exclusionary attitude that is so entrenched in the rest of Tumblr has made its way into the rest of the plural community thanks to this hellsite.

The good thing, though, is the age demographic of the average Tumblr user still means there’s time for them to realize how rigid and dogmatic their views really are.

There are very few “gatekeepers” reporting their body-age as being over 25. Most are minors. The psychiatrists we know don’t even consider a diagnosis of DID/OSDD until their client is at least over 18; some even setting the threshold as high as 26 due to maturity of brain development and independent living arrangements (or lack thereof).

I’ve yet to see much in terms of literature examining “pediatric” DID/OSDD, and would be open to reading it.

Even the non-diagnosable traumagenic systems we know didn’t fully realize their plurality until later in life.

Most Tumblr users are going through the stage in life where various “phases” can take place. There’s nothing wrong with that, it’s simply a fact of developmental psychology.

Add in the tumultousness and traumatic experience of growing up in a society so heavily inundated with readily available misinformation and it’s easy to see how they might think in the ways they currently do.

It’s an environment which practically requires escapism. It’s not my place to determine what is or isn’t escapism for any given individual or plural group, but we would all be remiss if we did not acknowledge that it does happen with this demographic.

If the trauma in their home environment didn’t warrant this sort of selves-preservation, the toxic and unhealthy nature of their online lives very well may.

The line between dissociation and escapism can be difficult to determine for someone who is in a life-stage where the ability to introspect is yet to fully mature.

The younger “gatekeepers” who are now mistaking non-DID/OSDD plurality for Maladaptive Daydreaming have yet to find that line.
DID/OSDD and other forms of plurality are nothing like Maladaptive Daydreaming, which they consider to be nothing more than escapism when it’s much more than that.
It’s considered a form of dissociation closer to Derealization or Depersonalization, yet is also most associated with ADHD and OCD.

The way they refer to plurality, “being a system”, is also detrimental to the plural community as it reinforces the opinion of the psychiatric establishment that plural groups with DID/OSDD are just singlets who have “failed to integrate” due to trauma; trauma that is almost exclusively defined as abuse at the expense of every other form of trauma that can lead to a plural neurotype.

If anything, the current generation of plural groups who grew up in the post-MPD world were never exposed to other ways of interpreting the exact same lived experience.
The psychiatric establishment didn’t truly consider MPD to mean “many people sharing one body”; rather, that was how person’s diagnosed with MPD thought of themselves and each other.

THAT^, we believe, was the true beginning of what we now call “syscourse”.
That^ was what first divided us.
Tumblr is just its coming of age.

TL;DR

Tumblr’s plural community and prevailing mindset are products of the contemporary psychiatric establishment’s aura of authority that appeals to young persons who’ve yet to fully realize themselves or their selves.

If DID/OSDD and the medicalized interpretation of plurality are ever changed again, “gatekeepers” may find themselves in the same situation of cognitive dissonance when MPD was passed up in favor of a different model.

In short, unless it is flooded by adults aged 30 years or more, Tumblr won’t retain its popularity with its current plural users beyond a few age cohorts.

Nothing lasts forever.

I’ve said this before, but since when has that ever stopped me from repeating myself…

I really wonder how all this discourse would be different if the plural activists hadn’t been able to get them to change the proposed criteria. The proposal was to remove Amnesia and dysfunction from the criteria, and activists made sure those stayed. (I really need to dig up the source on that again, it was fascinating stuff. It is, unsurprisingly, a bit difficult to find again, since the keywords I’m searching with mostly turns up lots of articles about DID and amnesia … I really need to get/use some sort of app to organize all the interesting stuff I find!)

If that hadn’t happened, we’d all be DID around here lol. I really doubt the distress/dysfunction removal would have stuck no matter what, since that’s a basic requirement for something to be a disorder at all… But still.
