What It’s Like to be Multiple (Described Allegorically, Based on a Movie Starring Keanu Reeves)

Okay, I’m going to tell you a story, and it probably won’t make a lot of sense at first, but bear with me, and try to imagine yourself as the protagonist. This story is actually 100% true. Allegorically.
You’re on a bus. Why you’re on the bus and not in a car isn’t important; maybe you fell on hard times and can’t afford a vehicle, maybe you’re trying to be environmentally conscious, maybe you were out drinking and wisely decided to let someone else drive. Either way, you’re on a bus, and you’re staring out the window, not really paying attention, letting your mind drift.
All of a sudden you become aware of a commotion among the other passengers. You were only vaguely aware of them before now, but now you’re paying attention. Just like on a typical bus on a typical day in a typical city, there’s a pretty broad cross-section of people here. Most of them are total strangers to each other, but maybe there’s a couple who are on a cheap date, maybe there’s a pair of siblings, maybe a small group of friends, that kind of thing. Mostly it just seems random, in a demographic sense.
