( No Title )
anyway just a quick fuckin reminder that endos are blatantly disrespecting trauma survivors and disregarding everything that we’ve been thru and what we’ve been saying, so far as to completely ignore what education trauma survivors have provided for endos and honestly? that’s fucking sickening.
From the tags: “Specific medical terms”.
This nonsense again?
They’re not medical terms if they were specifically created by “people with DID” (THAT’S the medical term) together withbpeople without it, who wanted a term they could use for all people who are multiple whether they fit the diagnosis or not.
That term was SYSTEM.
Headmate was coined first by soulbonders. SYSTEMS adapted that to refer to their SYSTEMMATES. So they wouldn’t have to use the actual clinical term, Alter.
“System” was a *rejection* of clinical terminology, and of pathologization of all multiplicity.
Anyone who tries to tell you it’s been in use since the 1800s is wrong – their source is a book by Pierre Janet, The Major Symptoms of Hysteria (easy to find on Google Books). The word “system” or “systems” is used 30+ times in the book. Every time, it’s either used in the phrase “nervous system” or refers to a collection of things that do a thing, like create a thought, or recall a memory, or combine signals from the optic nerves to create the experience of Vision or whatever. Never as “all the persons/identities in someone with Hysterical Neurosis” (what DID was called back then.)
“System”/“Multiple system” still isn’t in any medical dictionary. It’s only rarely used in professional literature, and as far as I’ve seen NEVER used until AFTER it was well-established in the community.
You can be like LB Lee and go to a DID conference and practically no one knows what the heckety heck you’re talking about when you say “multiple system”.
Because it’s NOT actually official medical terrminology.
The actual official terminology is “person(s) with DID”. And “alter” (which IS in medical dictionaries!)
Quit taking terms that were created to be Intentionally NOT MEDICAL and acting like they’re technical professional terms. If for no other reason than that it makes you look like your whole knowledge of multiplicity comes from Tumblr.
