Is having bipolar as serious/ bad as having schizophrenia?
i don’t think either of them is worse than the other one; they both suck, they’re both psychotic disorders, and they both affect a person’s life in negative ways.
if you compare them stigmatically (how others view/stigmatize the disorders), schizophrenia and bipolar are both demonized and treated unfairly. like there are horror movies out there where the “villain” is just a bipolar/schizophrenic person
there are bipolar stereotypes (abusive bipolar mother, fat crazy bipolar girl, manic pixie dream girl) and schizophrenic stereotypes (schizophrenic killer, hermit, schizophrenic man with split personalities). now that i’m thinking abt it every stereotype of a bipolar person in media that i’ve seen has been a woman, and besides helena in orphan black, every schizophrenic stereotype i’ve seen has been a man.
