Its not bad *because* the little rover was washed away, rather the little rover being washed away was a narrative signal that what’s happening was bad. The mars rover is a symbol of humanity’s curiosity and achievement, and one that is empathized with and anthropomorphized heavily in popular culture. Therefore the literal tide of mutant power washing over the mars rover and destroying it utterly becomes a metaphor for rampant power destroying something fragile and good.
