You mean when everyone went up in arms because of a fictional self-insert ship?

It’s the fandom version of “first world problems” (on the haters).

It’s like some people have nothing more serious or at least substantial to worry about (and when they do and they just project and take it out on others it’s not any better) that they need to create a whole self-righteous campaign against the 239472304783247th artist drawing something they don’t like.

+ Anon:  A quick google search on that person and its just an artist who made a self insert and draws nsfw shippy stuff? Who cares? That’s the most vanilla fandom thing ever. Kill socmed fandom with fire.

.

Yes.

I know nothing about Erin Clover specifically but:

The way that self-shippers and OC creators have been stigmatized and driven to the outer edges of fandom in the last ten years is absolutely 1) mystifying and 2) terrible, in my opinion.

Like what even happened? Back in 2003 when the LOTR movie fandom was in its heyday FFN was basically *nothing* but self-insert in middle earth fics and the only question was if your OC was going to end up with Aragorn, Legolas, or someone more exotic…
