Karl leaned over Donna’s shoulder to get a closer look at what she was working on. Her veil was pulled back, and her face was serious and intense as she arranged and pinned little cut pieces of paper.

“Weird project for Miranda to give you to work on,” Karl grumbled. “A fairytale book. Don’t tell me she’s expecting a baby.”

The quiet woman shrugged and smiled, humming a little under her breath as she worked.

Karl gave the book another glance, leaned down and kissed the side of her face gently. “Well, weird project or not, it looks great, dollface.”
