Ask-Derse Guide to Dreamself Awakening:Using Astral Projection and Lucid Dreaming Methods

The number one question I receive on this blog is ‘how do I wake my dreamself up?’. Historically, I have had no answer for this, as my own dreamself awoke naturally, and I had no luck awakening my fellow players before the game began. However, as I am ever your humble servant in terms of details and advice in all things Derse, I have been researching the matter intensely and now have a method to share with you.

Awakening your dreamself entails allowing your conscious mind to travel from one sleeping body/brain (on Earth, or whatever planet you are reading this on) to another, identical sleeping body/brain on Prospit or Derse. Thus, it is necessary for the conscious mind to travel and inhabit another body. Since our minds are (for humans and most species) used to residing in one body/brain and not moving even during sleep, it typically takes a very jarring mental event to shake the mind loose and allow it to wander, and thus, end up in our other body.

The trick, then, is force the mind to consciously and deliberately leave the body while sleeping, leaving it free to find the other attached body and wake up in that. And there are methods for that. I will provide a brief overview of steps here, and a bibliography of materials for those of you that require or are curious about further study.

Presteps for both methods:

  1. Reality testing: Ask yourself repeatedly during the day- Am I dreaming? You can set a timer for this. When it beeps, look around and try to determine if you’re dreaming. Ask the question out loud. This will get you used to the behavior, and it is more likely to carry over to your dreaming state.
  2. Dream journaling: Keep a journal of your dreams and write in it every time you wake up, in as much detail as you can. This will make you more accustomed to remembering your dreams and more likely to remember them.

Method 1 (Lucid Dreaming and second awakening):

  • In the evening, when you have plenty of time to sleep, set your alarm clock for 4 and a half hours from the time you go to bed.
  • Wake up when you hear the alarm. Turn it off. Sit up in bed for a few minutes- but not too long.
  • Lie back down, and let yourself slowly relax. Visualize yourself walking down a set of stairs, deeper and deeper.
  • Eventually you will reach the bottom of the stairs. Look around to see what’s there. Ask yourself ‘Am I dreaming?’.
  • Once you are aware that you are dreaming your mind will now be lucid. You will be able to control elements of the dream, and shape it however you wish. Play around if you like, get used to controlling the dream. But this is not the goal.
  • Once you are comfortably lucid, it is time to wake up in your other body. To do this, I recommend that you visualize a door to your dream tower. Open it, and walk into your dream room. You may have to try this several times before it works and you see your room, as opposed to somewhere else.
  • It is likely that you will jolt awake in your dream body when you open the door to your tower. If so, success! If not, look around. Do you see yourself sleeping on your bed in the tower? If so, lie down with yourself and try to ‘join’ your mind with your body, until you can sit up.
  • If you don’t see your body, you’ll have to determine if you’re awake now, or if you’re still lucid dreaming. Look around for a clock and see if the time remains consistent. Fly to dream towers and see who’s there. Do anything you can to check if you’re awake or not. If it turns out youre still dreaming, just repeat the steps until you wake up.

It is possible, unfortunately that this method may not work for you, and you will be unable to find your dream tower, or you will only find visions/dreams of it and not the real thing. If that is the case, then you may chose to attempt method 2, which works via astral travel rather than lucid dreaming. However, be warned that astral travel is known to have its dangers, especially given that you will be traveling through the outer ring to arrive at the medium.

Method 2 (astral travel through the outer ring):

  • In the evening, when you have plenty of time to sleep, set your alarm clock for 4 and a half hours from the time you go to bed.
  • Wake up when you hear the alarm. Turn it off. Sit up in bed for a few minutes- but not too long.
  • Lay back down and relax, eyes closed. Feel every part of your body, individually from your toes, to the top of your head. Really feel your *self* inside your body.
  • At this stage you may feel yourself tingling, or vibrating. This is a good sign.
  • Step out of your body. Make sure you do not physically move but feel yourself, sitting up, and stepping or flying out of your bed.
  • Once you have managed to get out of your body, look around you, and examine where you are. You should be in your room. If you are not, try to determine where you are. If you are in our room, look to see if anything is different- you may be in your dreambody already. Look out the window- are you on Prospit or Derse? If yes, you are already successful. If not, through this method you will have to manually move your mind to your sleeping body in the medium.
  • If you are still in your room on Earth, or some other other location, try to let your body float.
  • Float until you are able to fly in a directed movement and then fly upwards into the sky. Fly and fly until earth disappears and you fly into blackness.
  • Eventually through this method you will reach the outer ring, where the horrorterrors dwell. I feel compelled to warn you that this method may be dangerous. The horrorterrors are typically, but not always docile. If they address you, or you hear whispers while you are flying toward the medium, do not acknowledge them. Focus on your goal, on where you are going. That will keep you headed in the direction of the medium, and not lost among the horrorterrors.
  • Additionally you may encounter the dreambubbles of the dead in the outer ring, though this is unlikely if your session has not properly begun. if you *do* encounter dream bubbles, I would advise that you stop, and chat as much as you can with those who are there. You may get valuable information for finding your fellow players, and avoiding deadly mistakes. If you wake up on Earth while in dream bubbles, you can always try to go back another night.
  • Eventually, if you are careful, you should make it all the way through the outer ring, and into the medium. From there, I advise that you fly as fast as you can to Prospit or Derse (whichever is closest to where you come out of the outer ring- you should be able to see both. The medium is not large. Check the bodies in the towers until you find yours.
  • When you find your dream body asleep in your tower, allow your consciousness to enter it. Lie down in the bed with your body and allow yourself to merge with it. You should now wake up on either Prospit or Derse, still dreaming on Earth. Now you are free to do whatever you wish in the medium. I recommend you make friends with the locals.

If you successfully move your sleeping consciousness to your body in the medium, you should now officially be ‘awake’, your mind knowing the path between bodies. Next time you sleep on Earth you should wake up in the medium again. If you don’t, just follow the steps again, to find your dream body. Do this every night until it becomes automatic.
