Heyy so what’s up with Egyption mythology that modern stories involving the pantheon have the modern hero access the gods via outside magical item? Like the amulets in Kane Chronicles and the idle of Khonshu in Moon Knight? Even the Miraculous from Miraculous Ladybug are implied to be Egyptian and give the main characters access to the gods and their powers. I might be wrong about Moon Knight though. I know Marc was placed before an idle of Khonshu and gained access to his powers and mind permanently, so it’s a bit different than the other two but in the same vein I think.
Is it something about the mythology itself? I know modern retellings of Greek myths use demigods and heros or just the gods themselves stuck in human form, and modern Norse stories just use the gods themselves, maybe their kids if the story involves Ragnarok and needs more heros to fight.
I don’t know what the full answer to this is, but unfortunately its easy to see it as the possible result of colonialism; specifically the history of the appropriation of Egyptian artifacts and culture started by the British.
