Obviously there is an economy on Derse, as goods and services are exchanged. Such exchanges are made in money (Boondollars, as with the rest of the medium). Dersites are paid by their employers for their labor, their wages are taxed by the government, and the government pays its employees and for vital services from taxes.

Derse is semi-capitalist with some socialist elements. Dersites are created with a job and a purpose waiting for them. They are granted from their creation a housing allowance by the government, which they may if they wish supplement with their wages for more a luxurious living space. Dersites are free to leave their mandated jobs and/or seek other employment if they wish, though this is difficult as they are only born with the knowledge of their jobs, and must learn any other job skills manually. Few artists and craftspeople are deliberately created for the job; most are hobbyists who incidentally share and sell their creations as supplemental income.

Heat, electricity, water, basic housing, and medical care are all funded through government taxes- all other goods and services must be purchased with the Dersite’s wages. Most Dersites work in manufacturing goods, but there are of course many other service related jobs. Doctors, lawyers, waiters, massage therapists, tailors, landlords, clerks, security guards and so on and so forth.

There are limitations on what can be imported from the medium to Derse, and imported goods other than food are very hard to come by, legally. There is however a healthy black market for items from elsewhere in the medium. Prospitian comic books specifically are a popular item for collectors.
