I come from an emotionally abusive and neglectful family who gaslit me, but I’m wondering if what happened to me was physical abuse? My brother and I were both hit on the hand as punishment. It never left a mark, but we were scared to tears and it hurt a lot. I don’t like being held by the wrist for this same reason (they held us so we couldn’t leave). My friends say it isn’t because they never left a mark and they’ve stopped since we were old enough to remember but I think it might’ve been.
Physical abuse can be defined as any intentional act causing injury or trauma to another person or animal by way of bodily contact.
If you were hit even lightly, or touched in any way that upset you, that’s physical abuse. Personally, I even consider getting up in someone’s face/physically menacing them, physical abuse.
